2026 Rivian R1T Review, Specs, Price

The 2026 Rivian R1T is an exceptionally well-rounded electric truck. However, its brawn, lengthy range and off-road acumen demand a premium price tag. The Rivian R1T was one of the first players in its segment, with clever engineering and a no-compromise disposition preserving its position as the electric pickup to beat. Face-melting performance, a truly handy gear tunnel, and flawless riding quality are all features of the Tri- and Quad-Motor. The market for electric pickup trucks is becoming more competitive, but few competitors can match the Rivian R1T's remarkable combination of astute packaging, potent utility, and peak performance. Though it is just somewhat bigger than the mid-size Ford Ranger, it can carry more cargo than some full-size pickups thanks to innovative storage options including a wide frunk and a gear tunnel between the bed and cab. It also approaches some XL-gasser tow ratings with its 11,000 pounds of almost silent pulling strength. With the Dual-Motor Max removing road trip anxiety with an EPA-estimated range of 420 miles and the new 1025-hp Quad-Motor giving Corvette-rivaling performance, the R1T's model lineup offers plenty of diversity. The R1T remains a leader in the electric truck market, despite competition from rival vehicles like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV.

The addition of a Quad-Motor trim to the R1T and R1S lineup is the major story for 2026. They have in-house-designed electric motors from Rivian that are more powerful and efficient, and they use oil cooling for better thermal performance. The Quad stands out from the rest of the lineup thanks to new design features like Laguna Blue brake calipers and new 20- and 22-inch wheel designs. A glass roof, Rivian's high-end sound system, black trim, and strengthened underbody protection will be standard on all Quad variants. Only the Max battery pack with the largest capacity is available. Rivian says that Quad-Motor deliveries will start in July, commencing with Launch Edition versions. The transition to a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge connector on all models, which enables connectivity with Tesla Superchargers, is another update for the 2026 R1T. Additionally, a free CCS DC converter for non-Tesla DC charging will be included with every 2026 R1T.

With the huge battery pack that increases the EPA-estimated range from 258 to 330 miles, we believe the Adventure Dual-Motor variant makes the most sense. The Quad-Motor's vicious acceleration offers a lot of entertainment value, but the fun is tempered by its starting price of $117,885.

All-wheel drive is standard on the R1T powertrain range, which includes three different configurations with a Performance tuning for the base two-motor layout. The Performance Dual-Motor uses software to increase the output to 665 horsepower and 829 pound-feet of torque, while the conventional Dual-Motor system produces 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. Things start to get interesting with the Tri-Motor system, which consists of one front motor and two rear motors that together produce 850 horsepower and 1103 pound-feet of torque. Three distinct battery packs are available for the R1T. Compared to the 2024 Standard battery Dual-Motor, the updated chemistry lithium-iron-phosphate Standard pack is expected to last 258 miles, which is a minor reduction of 12 miles. According to EPA estimates, the driving ranges of the Large and Max battery packs are up to 292 and 420 miles, respectively. The Large and Max batteries can be charged at 220 kW using a suitable DC fast charger, whereas the Standard battery can only be charged at a maximum rate of 200 kW. When we tested a 2022 Quad-Motor test vehicle with the Large battery on 20-inch all-terrain tires, it only provided 220 miles of range on our real-world highway route at 75 mph. However, when we tested the same powertrain with 22-inch all-season street tires, the range increased by 60 miles to 280 miles, matching our best performance with a base Dual-Motor R1T with the Large battery. According to Rivian, depending on the battery, it should take 30 to 41 minutes to recharge the battery from 10% to 80% on the DC fast charger. Fuel efficiency ratings for the 2026 Rivian R1T have not yet been made public by the EPA, although the most efficient Dual-Motor Max model from the previous year was rated at 93 MPGe in the city and 80 MPGe on the highway. Miles per gallon of gas equivalent, or MPGe, is an EPA statistic used to estimate the fuel efficiency of PHEV and EV vehicles. 

Cargo, Comfort, and Interior: First Row: Using leather, wood, and massive screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, the R1T stays quite close to the pickup regulations. For drivers of all sizes, there is ample leg, head, and shoulder room in addition to comfortable seats. Second Row: The rear seat of the R1T is roomy and light. The Rivian's second row is a pleasant place to be, with comfortable seats and high-end furnishings all around. Cargo Capacity: The R1T has a sizable storage space behind the cab (but in front of the bed), a lockable in-bed compartment, and a sizable trunk beneath the front hood. According to Rivian, the truck's total lockable storage space is 12 cubic feet. It is possible to install equipment over the bed and cabin of the truck thanks to its extendable and collapsible crossbar system.

A secondary digital readout functions as a reconfigurable gauge display, and a sizable 15.6-inch infotainment display is set into the R1T's curved dashboard. The primary options (navigation, media, climate controls, etc.) are always accessible at the bottom of the screen, while the infotainment interface uses expanding tiles for individual features. Every Rivian model has a comprehensive standard warranty that covers the battery and drivetrain for eight years or 175,000 miles, in addition to bumper-to-bumper coverage for five years or 60,000 miles. Five years or 60,000 miles are covered by the limited warranty. The powertrain warranty is good for 175,000 miles or eight years. No free planned maintenance.
