By reviving the Integra moniker, Acura enabled devotees to draw parallels between the new hatchback and its legendary forebears. And despite the fact that Negative Nancies continue to fixate on the fact that the new car is not a direct successor to the high-performance, low-volume Type R, the 2023 Integra is precisely what it should be.

The Integra shares the majority of its chassis with the Honda Civic Si, which is consistent with Acura's past. Integras have traditionally been modified Civics, and the new car is effectively a Si hatchback, which Honda does not produce, with a greater level of standard equipment and more refined road manners. Importantly, the 2023 Integra is a substantially more enticing entry-level Acura model than the outdated ILX.
Because it shares its foundations with the Honda Civic Si, the Integra employs the same 1.5-liter turbo I4 engine with 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. The Integra, unlike the Si, comes standard with a continuously variable automatic transmission, but a six-speed manual transmission is retained. Oddly, the stick is only available on the Integra A-Spec with Technology Package, but Acura reports that more than half of all Integra preorders include this option, so that's excellent news.
The CVT makes the Integra more accessible to a wider spectrum of customers than the manual-only Civic Si, but at the expense of the Acura's fun factor. I will remark that the Integra would be an excellent vehicle for novice manual drivers. The light clutch has a distinct take-up point, and the stick's throws are short and solidly engaged. Automatic rev-matching is standard on the Integra, just as it is on the Si, making the manual transmission significantly more forgiving (and easier) to handle in city driving and stop-and-go traffic. Yes, you can disable this, but I never will. Heavy Los Angeles traffic is a litmus test for the daily livability of a stick-shift, and the Integra's transmission is fatigue-free.
The A-Spec/Tech trim level of the Integra, regardless of transmission, includes adaptive dampers, which could explain why Honda withdrew them from the Civic Si. (Must reserve a few distinctive traits for Acura, right?) The Integra's Comfort and Normal settings provide a cushier ride than the Civic's, while the Sport option significantly stiffens the dampers for tight cornering characteristics without roughness.
The redesigned Integra is powered by the Honda Civic Si's turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission are standard on all variants (CVT). Optional equipment for A-Spec cars includes a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. On our test track, our six-speed manual A-Spec test vehicle reached 60 mph in 7.0 seconds, while the A-Spec equipped with a CVT took 0.1 seconds longer. The A-Spec model adds an Individual drive mode to the Integra's drive-mode selector switch, allowing drivers to preserve a customized setting. During our initial test drive, we discovered that the Integra was lively and nimble. The steering is heavy-weighted but satisfyingly direct, and the adjustable dampers allow the driver to choose between a comfortable cruising ride and a more performance-oriented setting for enhanced cornering enjoyment. However, road noise is excessive, and we wish Acura had incorporated more sound-dampening materials into the vehicle's construction.

The most fuel-efficient Integra model, according to the EPA, is the base model with the CVT, which is rated at 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Such ratings will enable the Integra to compete with its primary competitor, the Audi A3, which is rated at 29 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. A-Spec models with the optional Technology package add faux-suede inserts to the seats as well as 12-way power adjustments for the driver and four-way power adjustments for the front passenger to the standard heated sport seats upholstered in faux-leather and featuring eight-way power driver adjustments. The rear seat is large enough to comfortably accommodate two adults, but a lack of creature conveniences may deter premium customers.
Infotainment and Connectivity: A 10.2-inch digital gauge display with programmable driver information is standard across the Integra family. Standard on the Integra is a 7.0-inch infotainment display, while a larger 9.0-inch unit is available as an option. Neither display features the irritating touchpad controller featured on other Acura products. In A-Spec cars, the larger touchscreen is part of the Technology package, which also includes a wireless smartphone charging pad, a head-up display measuring 5.3 inches, and three USB-C charging ports located around the cabin. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models, but only vehicles equipped with the Technology package allow wireless connectivity for these capabilities. Standard is an eight-speaker audio system, however a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D premium stereo system is available.
The Integra comes standard with a variety of driver assistance systems, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian recognition, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
