The 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL-class may appear to be a sporty vehicle, but it is actually a big touring vehicle with a fashion-forward exterior. The SL has a snappy enough chassis to be exciting, but its V-8 engine is the real attraction. Despite the fact that all models include all-wheel drive and are powered by the same twin-turbo V-8 engine, the SL is available in two power levels, beginning with the 469 horsepower SL55 and progressing to the 577 horsepower SL63. The SL's inside provides sufficient space for two adults and is loaded with luxury and technology features, such as an 11.9-inch infotainment display that can be adjusted to better align with the driver's field of sight. Despite Mercedes-designation AMG's of the SL as a roadster, it has two modest back seats. Not necessarily new to anyone familiar with the current Mercedes lineup, of course; many of the improvements merely involve bringing the SL up to 2022 standards, as the previous model still contained a substantial amount of design, technology, and engineering dating back more than a decade. Mercedes creates a brand-new chassis based on a composite aluminum construction for the new SL, which will serve as the basis for the next generation of the AMG GT sports car, albeit in reduced form.

Such powertrains will enable the reborn SL-class to compete with convertible versions of the BMW 8-series and the Lexus LC, both of which are available with potent V-8 engines, as well as sports competitors like the Porsche 911. During our first test drive, we realized that the SL did not live up to its new, sportier goal. The car's customizable drive modes make it difficult to find the optimal balance between agility and comfort, giving the feeling that it is not sufficiently focused on either trait. In our tests, the SL63 accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 3.0 seconds when equipped with the more powerful V-8 engine.

fuel economy and MPG in the real world The SL55 and SL63 models received EPA ratings of 14 and 21 mpg for city and highway driving, respectively. Cargo, Comfort, and Interior The SL-class remains exclusively a convertible with two doors. In order to conserve weight and increase storage space, the new model sports a cloth roof rather than the difficult folding hardtop of the previous edition. However, do not anticipate a large trunk. A pair of modest rear seats allow seating for the odd traveler, but this space is better suited for goods than for passengers. Airscarf, a new Mercedes feature that blows warm air on the driver and front passenger's necks during cold weather driving, comes standard.

Mercedes' interiors have always been attractive, but in recent years, new design languages and shapes have been introduced. Elegant curves and twisting lines have been introduced inside, giving the cabin a more exotic, natural appearance than prior models. After messing with the seat controls (a minor improvement over the old ones, which actually moved when pressed), you will discover a comfortable seating position with all the settings at your hands. People with long legs will need to push the seat back to prevent the high side bolsters from digging into their thighs, but other than that, the seats are quite comfortable, even for the kind of long drives that SL owners wish they could take frequently but end up taking in their other Mercedes-Benz.

It is also shockingly spacious. It is no replacement for the dearly departed S-Class Convertible, but the back seats are large enough to accommodate four smaller passengers. (Other journalists in the vehicle were able to accommodate a six-foot-three guy in the second row behind a five-foot-three driver.) However, the majority of individuals will likely choose to use as much of the front seat space as possible and reserve the second row for additional storage space or perhaps a baby seat, if space permits.

Infotainment and Connectivity: All SL models are equipped with Mercedes' new MBUX infotainment system, which includes the system's "Hey Mercedes" virtual assistant, and an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display whose viewing angle can be adjusted according to the driver's preference.
