The 2026 BMW iX is a terrific luxury electric SUV. It offers thrilling performance, a long driving range and a comfortable, spacious and luxe cabin. Its minor drawbacks include controversial style and a high price tag. Although body roll is better controlled by the performance model's more aggressive suspension tuning, the ride is not as smooth as the other two iX versions. BMW claims that the M70 xDrive version can dash to 60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds, while the standard xDrive45 can do it in 4.9 seconds. Considering that a 2023 iX M60 we drove to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds with 40 fewer horsepower than the M70 whips out, we believe those figures will ultimately turn out to be rather conservative. When fitted with the optional tow hitch, all iX models have a tow capacity of up to 3500 pounds.

According to BMW, the iX's large battery pack will provide the xDrive60 with up to 364 miles of driving range between charges. The estimated range of the M70 is 303 miles, whereas that of the base xDrive45 is 312. We were taken aback by the range of the last iX when we tested it on our highway fuel economy test at 75 mph. The EPA's overall driving range estimate is typically significantly reduced by highway driving, but the iX's range in our test was an astounding 290 miles. When connected to a 200-kW connection, the iX's built-in DC rapid charging capacity allows it to recharge from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes. The iX may be charged via a Level 2 home charging station or on public DC charging networks. The EPA hasn't released fuel economy estimates for the 2026 iX yet, but when that information is available, we'll update this story with details. Last year's model earned ratings of up to 86 MPGe city and 87 MPGe highway. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route the iX managed only an 81 MPGe result but provided an excellent 290 miles of range.
