The 2026 Rivian R1S bundles a luxe seven-seat interior, impressive on- and off-road performance and a wealth of standard equipment into a stylish all-electric package. Faster than its predecessor, the 2026 R1S maintains the same mission trajectory with a powerful 1025-hp Quad-Motor arrangement and an opulent interior. Excitations, a maximum driving range of 410 miles, and a luxurious cabin are all promised by the new quad-motor drivetrain. With the release of a new Quad-Motor variant in 2026, the Rivian R1S SUV makes an even bolder statement. The new Quad-Motor model is undoubtedly powerful, with a reported 1025 horsepower. It also comes with new technology and software that enables it to fully manage each wheel separately for improved grip and reduced dynamic drama both on and off-road. All models have characteristic exterior style, a subtle premium interior, and three-row, seven-passenger capability. Less costly two- and three-motor variants are still available. 15 inches of ground clearance is possible thanks to an adjustable air-spring suspension system, and the R1S's 410-mile maximum range guarantees both capability and range. Despite being revolutionary when they were first introduced, the segment now includes more recent models like the Volvo EX90 as well as less expensive choices like the Kia EV9 and the Hyundai Ioniq 9.

Although CCS DC adapters are available, all Rivian models switch to a NACS charging port. With four configurations ranging from the standard Dual-Motor (533 horsepower) to the new Quad-Motor (1025 horsepower) for 2026, adjusting the power is mostly a matter of personal preference. The Quad-Motor is more than just a force demonstration, though, since it follows the "one-wheel, one-motor" theory, which permits each wheel to function separately for maximum traction. This also makes it possible for a novel "kick turn" capability to spin the car in off-road conditions by slowing, stopping, or even reversing the inside wheels. Prior iterations of the 2026 R1S models featured a Peak DC Fast-Charge Rate of 210 kW; Rivian has not yet provided a charge rate or timings for these models. A NACS (North American Charging Standard) port is added to all 2026 R1S versions.

The 2026 R1S's fuel efficiency has not yet been disclosed by the EPA, although the 2025 R1S Dual-Motor with the Large battery received ratings of 94 MPGe in the city, 77 MPGe on the highway, and 85 MPGe overall. Conversely, the 2025 R1S with the three-motor configuration had ratings of 68 MPGe overall, 72 MPGe in the city, and 63 MPGe on the interstate.

The R1S features an understated luxury vibe, blending faux leather with standard features including power-adjustable seats with heat and ventilation. The seats are comfortable, and the view forward is generous. An uncluttered design is promoted by placing the majority of the controls on the touchscreen. The horizontally mounted 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen runs Rivian's latest software interface that uses expandable tiles for individual features, with the main options (navigation, media, and climate controls) permanently available at the bottom of the display. There are two 120-volt outlets, 8 USB ports, two wireless chargers, and a Wi-Fi hotspot that can be shared with up to eight devices. A 12-speaker stereo is standard, but there's also an optional 19-speaker system with Apple Spatial Audio technology and Dolby Atmos processing integration for properly encoded music files available via an Apple Music subscription.

Included with every R1S is the "Rivian Autonomy Platform." It is said to assist the system see farther even in bad weather and low light levels by utilizing 38 sensors, five radars, eleven cameras, and AI prediction technologies.
